Step into the past with Wivenhoe House, a historical gem with roots tracing back to 1759. Commissioned by Isaac Rebow and crafted by architect Thomas Reynolds, this Georgian mansion is now a Grade II listed building with many of the rooms lovingly restored to reflect and celebrate the original 18th-century architecture of our beautiful building.

Wivenhoe House has seen centuries of history, in 1816, renowned artist John Constable immortalised the house and its stunning grounds in a painting that now hangs proudly in the National Gallery of Art, Washington D.C.

Throughout the years, Wivenhoe House has hosted illustrious guests, including Sir Winston Churchill and Queen Elizabeth II. During World War II, it served as a military hub, playing a significant role in the war effort.

In 1964, the house began a new chapter as the initial home of the University of Essex, eventually becoming the base for the Edge Hotel School. Today, it stands as a luxurious four-star hotel, seamlessly blending its rich heritage with modern comforts.

Wivenhoe House is not just a hotel; it’s a historical journey waiting to be explored. Whether you’re visiting for a romantic getaway, a wedding, or a corporate event, the charm and elegance of this magnificent estate will leave an unforgettable impression.
